چکیده

We review some aspects of radio continuum polarimetric imaging of high redshift radio galaxies. The correlation between extreme values of Faraday rotation observed toward radio emitting structures in nearby radio galaxies, and X-ray emitting cluster atmospheres, is presented as a method for targeting objects at high redshift for deep X-ray searches. We present an X-ray detection of the extreme rotation measure radio galaxy PKS 1138−262 at z = 2.156, and we argue that the X-ray emission is from a cluster atmosphere with a luminosity of 1.7±0.3×10 44 h −2 ergs sec −1. We also present results on the correlation between size and redshift for a sample of ultra-luminous radio galaxies between 0 < z < 4.3. Source sizes decrease systematically with redshift, suggesting either denser environments , or younger sources, at high redshift. An alternative explanation is significant inverse Compton losses off the microwave background at high redshift.

We report on our XMM observations of the high redshift quasars BR 2237–0607 (z=4.558) and BR 0351–1034 (z=4.351), together with 14 other z> 4 objects found in the XMM public archive. Contrary to former reports, we do not find high redshift radio-loud quasars to be more absorbed than their radio-quiet counterparts. We find that the optical to X-ray spectral index αox is correlated with the lumin...

Although radio-quiet quasars (RQQs), which constitute the majority of optically-identified quasar samples, are by no means radio silent the properties of their radio emission are only poorly understood. We present the results of a multi-frequency VLA study of 27 low-redshift RQQs. In general, we find that the properties of the radio sources in RQQs are consistent with them being weak, small-sca...

We report on our XMM observations of the high redshift quasars BR 2237–0607 (z=4.558) and BR 0351–1034 (z=4.351). We also report on XMM observations of 19 other z> 4 objects available in the public archive of which 14 were detected. We find that the optical to X-ray spectral index αox is correlated with the luminosity density at 2500Å, but does not show a correlation with redshift, consistent w...

We present evidence that the 3CR radio galaxies at redshift z ∼ 1 are already very massive, highly dynamically evolved galaxies, which lie at the heart of (proto–)cluster environments. Since nearby 3CR double radio sources are generally found in more isolated surroundings, the galactic environments of these galaxies must change dramatically with redshift. Therefore, the original ‘uniform popula...
